About Matt

I am a 29 year old wildlife filmmaker with substantial experience of filming African wildlife, and a passion for the natural world.

I am currently based in Bristol - UK, working with Wildstar Films as a Researcher on an upcoming global series called ‘SENTIENT’ for National Geographic and Disney+ (streaming 2025).

I have also spent much of my time based in Zambia’s iconic Luangwa Valley working with The Bushcamp Company, running their large YouTube channel, as well as filming with the BBC.

After graduating with a BA Honours Degree in Marine and Natural History Photography from Falmouth University, I was offered a job to assist one of the world’s leading wildlife photographers, Will Burrard-Lucas, at his company Camtraptions. I assisted him in developing camera trap products for commercial use whilst gaining knowledge in innovative wildlife camera techniques.

I also have experience in TV production, having worked as a Runner on major shows with the BBC, ITV, Love Productions, Avalon Television and more.

My pursuit of a career in wildlife filmmaking started when I was 16. I invited TV presenter and wildlife photographer, Jonathan Scott (Big Cat Diary, Big Cat Week) to speak at my school about his work. It was a day that changed my life, and Jonathan and Angie have been good friends and mentors ever since.

After my A-levels, I was offered an internship at Rekero Camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara where I worked as a photographer and host, before starting at Falmouth University in the UK.

Whilst honing my skills in wildlife photography at Falmouth University, I worked on board a sea safari boat, heading out to sea every day to photograph whales, dolphins, seals and sea birds around the incredible Cornish coastline. I was also lucky enough to work in Sri Lanka for 2 months living with a local family working for a safari company, Lankatracker.

With an upbringing surrounded by music and theatre, I also thoroughly enjoy writing my own music for my films. I also give live public talks to schools and camera clubs in the UK.
